Hanoi hotels

As mentioned above, the following Auckland hotels had to qualify to be listed here. They must be independently owned and operated, meet minimum eco-friendly requirements, rise to the top after a series of former guest reviews, and their average nightly double occupancy room rate must be less than US$100 per night. We have also listed budget accommodations as well as popular bed and breakfasts.

Click on any hotel website we provide, and talk to a real person. Avoid misunderstandings caused by a middleman. Before you make your reservation, you can request a multi-night or multi-room, child or senior discount; a quiet room, or a top floor room, or a room with a view; or if you wish to be accommodated close to the pool; if you want extra blankets, towels or pillows; or have them recommend and book a tour or car for you in advance; you can request a romantic bouquet of exotic flowers with a note attached waiting in your room, or a chilled bottle of champagne; or ask questions about the surrounding area, dining, nightlife, laundry services or luggage storage, or a possible early check-in or late check-out. Play one hotel against the other. You can't do any of this when you book through a middleman, and without the middleman's whopping 20% to 40% commission to pay, a hotel has far more flexibility in satisfying your requests! makes no commission from any reservation, and only charges a small annual fee to list the hotel on our websites.

It costs you nothing to enjoy the fruits of our labor, and the savings and advantages are up to you when you deal directly with the hotel!

Avoid chain hotels

There are basic reasons you should consider avoiding making reservations at a large chain-driven hotel in Hanoi. The first is that they are not well located within the city from a tourist's perspective. The second it that there is far greater demand for these type of rooms than the supply, driving prices upward, and service and quality downward.

But the main reason to avoid chain hotels (anywhere in the world) is that they do little self-promotion and it is difficult to contact the hotel directly to make your reservation. You are forced to go through an intermediary, the chain's head office or through the global distribution system (GDS) such as, travelocity, expedia, orbitz, or any of a hundred other middlemen. You can't ask questions, or request multi-day or multi rooms, senior or child discounts, or a quiet room with a view, or a pre-arranged car or tour, or luggage storage or laundry service, things to do in the area, or dining recommendations. These hotels have little pride to promote themselves, and lazily count on others to find them guests, and when you arrive, you are treated and feel like a statistic. Then to make matters worse, the hotel pays anywhere from a 10% to 40% commission to these intermediaries leaving you no room to negotiate a better rate.

In 2006, De Loitte & Touche LLP rating company ranked Hanoi third among cities that have the highest hotel room occupancy rates in the world. As a result, Hanoi needs more and more hotels.

Under the tourism development plan for the 1997-2010 period, Hanoi will attract two million foreign tourists by 2010, and it is estimated that 13,000 hotel rooms will be lacking, especially three, four and five star hotel rooms.

Fantastic landscapes not far from Hanoi

Hanoi has set strict requirements on the setting up of hotels in areas which have historical and cultural value, like the ancient streets in the Old Quarter. Therefore, it is understandable why smaller two-star hotels with 20-30 rooms are popular in Hanoi, and they are mostly located in the old inner city. In fact, several hotels in Hanoi are just ranked as two-star hotels though they could be ranked as three-star hotels in Europe, due to the strict requirements. If counting the rooms in two-star hotels, Hanoi has some 8,000 high-quality rooms.

As the communist government of Vietnam loosens up its travel restrictions, and continues to realize and respond positively to the value of tourism within its borders, Hanoi's tourism will continue growing at a faster rate than any other Asian location, but finding good reasonably priced accommodation and service will be increasingly difficult.

In general, the majority of Hanoi hotels are still small, but as demand grows for the larger four and five star chain hotels because travellers are unaware of their peripheral location, and the poor quality and service factor associated with these chains in Hanoi, not to mention double and triple the room rates of the independents hotels, these unfriendly statistic-based white elephants are continuing to be built in these secondary locations. With the limited real estate available in the prime tourist areas of Hanoi for large hotels, your best bet are our qualified hotels we list below.

The following hotels needed to qualify to be listed on this site. Their average roomrate needs to be less than $100 per night, they must be independent and proudly promote themselves on the first page of the internet, and they must survive the rigorous scrutiny of former guest reviews. The are in descending order with our most recommended at the top, though all are good.
